New Urban Developments
According to the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Victoria needs to add 60,000 new homes to its landscape each year for more than a decade to house a swelling population. For all those new developments planned to cater for this growing need, public transport options should be carefully considered. There is no point in building new developments without adequately planning for public transport to service them; specially those outside metropolitan areas.
- All new urban developments should allow for all forms of transportation, both within the development and connecting the development to the rest of the transport network.
- There should be specific design strategies to accommodate bus lanes and bicycle paths for ease of movement and safety.
